Pathology is the study of diseases, and clinical biochemistry is one of its subspecialties. Clinical biochemistry uses the study of biological fluids such as blood, urine, and other tissues to try and treat disorders. In a laboratory setting, a clinical biochemist will test a sample of body fluid. Decisions about diagnosis and therapy are then made based on the results. Blood is often drawn for a blood test from a vein in your arm, commonly the wrist or the inside of your elbow. Blood is frequently drawn from the back of a child's hand. To allow the vein to expand and to slow down blood flow, a tourniquet is wrapped around the upper arm. After cleaning the skin, a syringe-attached needle is inserted into the vein. After that, the syringe extracts the blood. After drawing blood, the needle is taken out and the region is compressed for a short while. The wound can be covered with a plaster.
